During the OMA November 2000 Council Meeting, the Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund (OMSBF) hosted a reception to acknowledge and personally thank physicians and others who have stepped forward to offer financial support to this important initiative. More than 80 people attended the event, which was held at the Hilton Toronto Hotel.
Dr. Garnet Maley, Chair of the OMSBF, along with OMA President Dr. Albert Schumacher, presented plaques and certificates to more than 30 physicians who had donated gifts of $2,000 or more toward the Fund.
The occasion also provided an opportunity to recognize two generous physician donors — Drs. Gail Beck and Dennis Pitt — who were presented with plaques in recognition of their charitable contributions as OMSBF Builders.
The evening featured the presentation of the first instalment of financial support from Cam Robertson on behalf of the Royal Bank of Canada, as well as a sizeable donation from John Matheson on behalf of KPMG. These two corporations join principal sponsor CMA/MD Management (through the Canadian Medical Foundation) as the Fund’s first corporate donors. The OMSBF would also like to thank the Hilton Toronto Hotel for its generous contribution of food and beverages for the reception.
During the formal portion of the evening, OMA Student Section members Mike Curry and Sabrina Lim-Morrison publicly expressed their appreciation to all of the donors on behalf of the medical students who will benefit from the fund.
The Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund, through the Ontario Medical Foundation, will continue to recognize the generosity of its donors as it works toward its fund-raising goal of $4 million.
