Issues affected by Higher Student Debt - The Future of Health Care in Ontario

The future of health care should not be based on the financial capacity of our medical students. We want to ensure that the most dedicated and skilled students are afforded the opportunity to study medicine. Other issues that are affected by higher student debts are:

• Choice of Speciality - students may base choice of specialty on quicker debt repayment
  
  
• Choice of Practicing Location - students who come from underserviced areas are more likely to return tome to work. They are also the most likely to require financial assistance.
  
  
• Diversity - within the practicing profession is less likely to reflect Ontario patients.
