Ontario Medical Association WebLink HelpFrequently Asked Questions:
How can I find a family doctor or general practitioner in my area?Generally, the best option for locating a family physician in Ontario is to consult the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The College provides a searchable database of physicians on the Web site (http://www.cpso.on.ca). However, the College cannot guarantee that a doctor will be accepting
new patients. Please call the Doctor's office directly to confirm. In
some communities, there are no doctors currently accepting new patients.
In this case, you may wish to widen your search to neighbouring communities. How can I find a psychiatrist or other medical specialist? Most specialists require a referral from your family physician to make an appointment. Please consult your family physician for more information. What are the main requirements for a certificate of registration to practise medicine in Ontario?Registration for medical practise in Ontario is handled by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Please see the details on the CPSO Web site: http://www.cpso.on.ca/Info_physicians/applicants/regist.htm What are the browser, computer, operating system requirements for this website? The OMA Weblink site is designed to be as compatible as possible across the various platforms commonly used for web surfing. In general, Apple, Linux and Windows users should be able to view the pages with little deviation between Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, Netscape or Firefox. However, browsers and newer versions of existing programs are constantly being developed which may result in unexpected or missing page views. We attempt to test web page viablilty among the newer software as soon as possible to ensure the users web views are not compromised. How do I view an attachment file sent in an OMA e-mail or downloaded from the Website? In most cases, if an electronic file is attached to an e-mail sent from the OMA it will be in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. This format makes it simple to view the document onscreen or print it out. Many of the documents found on our Web pages also use this format. In order to view the document, the user's computer needs to have the Acrobat Reader installed. This program may already be installed on the user's computer, but if not it can be downloaded from the Adobe website for free. Please visit http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/alternate.html for download options. How can I place an advertisment? The OMA does not sell Internet advertising space. If you have a vacancy for a physician OMA Placement Services can provide a listing in the employment advertising database. (www.oma.org/jobsearch/placement.html) Classified ad space is available in the Ontario Medical Review, (www.oma.org/omr.htm) a monthly magazine published by the OMA and distributed to the physicians of Ontario. Classified ads printed in the Review will also appear on the OMA Web site (www.oma.org/classidx.htm) Classified ads may include Office Space Available, Real Estate, Positions Vacant, Practices, Items for Sale, Services Available, and Upcoming Events. Please contact Margaret Lam at the OMA Tel: (416) 599-2580 or 1-800-268-7215 ext. 3457 or e-mail margaret_lam@oma.org for more information on classified ads.
