OMA Calls for Caloric Menu Labelling in Chain Restaurants and Schools 
On April 7, the OMA held a news conference to call for the implementation of an important new tool to help combat the epidemic of obesity among Ontario children and adults: calorie labelling on fast food restaurant and school cafeteria menus across the province. The OMA appealed for restaurant industry leadership on menu labelling, as well as increased public education to promote a better understanding of calories in food, and the link between caloric intake and weight gain. This represents the most recent phase in the OMA’s ongoing work to champion obesity prevention and promote general health and wellness among Ontarians. |

London Family Health Group “Shared Care” Pilot Initiative a Great Success
Patients of the Byron-based London Family Health Group are reaping the benefits of family medicine practised in a “shared care” setting — a team-based approach that includes allied health professionals working with family doctors as key care team members. The innovative model, which is similar to a family health team, has contributed to improved patient health, a more satisfied care team, and enhanced fiscal accountability.
