OMA honours new medical graduates

by Michael Greb, OMA Public Affairs and Communications Department

The OMA recently published a national newspaper ad welcoming Ontario’s 592 new medical graduates to the practice of medicine (see pp. 52-53).

The full-page ad, which appeared in the National Post, praises the achievement of the new graduates, and reinforces the OMA’s position that we must restore Ontario’s recognition as an attractive place to practise medicine.

One of the objectives of the ad was to signal to new grads that the OMA is working very hard to get government to respond to the fact that we must keep Ontario doctors and recent Ontario medical graduates in this province.

Recruitment and retention of medical graduates, in whom much time and money has been invested, should be a priority for government.

Keeping recent grads and practicing doctors in the province, and having the ability to attract more, contributes to a healthy economy, attracts new business to the province, and supports the well-being of Ontario residents.

The ad also expresses thanks to those physicians and corporations who have donated to the Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund, “to ensure that medicine remains a rewarding and affordable career, accessible to all students.”
