The recently updated OMA Position Paper on “The Role of the Primary Care Physician in Timely Return to Work” proposes a model for a successful return to safe and timely work program. It defines physician obligations as per the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario, and the voluntary role of the physician as a timely-return-to-work coordinator. The matter of appropriate remuneration and billing practices are reviewed as well.
12 OMA Unveils New Branding, Logo and Slogan pdf link

In April, the OMA will officially unveil its new branding, including a new logo and slogan, which reinforces the Association’s commitment to member representation, leadership and renewal, and reflects the OMA’s position as a champion of physician and patient interests. In the day-to-day operations of the Association, the new brand will emphasize value, service and excellence in everything connected to the membership — customer service, communications, and product delivery. It speaks to the OMA’s continuing revitalization, and a focus on strategic planning and priorities that reflect members’ wants and needs.
16 OMA 2009 Annual General & Council Meeting: Calendar of Events pdf link

The 129th OMA Annual General & Council Meeting will take place April 30 to May 3 at the Toronto Marriott Down­town Eaton Centre Hotel. Highlights include the Adam Linton Memorial Lecture, to be presented by CBC National anchor Peter Mansbridge, and the annual Awards Presentations and Gala Ceremony. Members are encouraged to review the calendar of events and Section program listings. Pre-registration is advised by using this Registration Form.
20 OMA to Host Retirement Planning Seminar for Physicians May 01, 2009

The OMA will host a day-long seminar on retirement planning during the upcoming Annual General Meeting. The interactive session will address a variety of topics such as how to assess your mental and emotional readiness for retirement, and effective investment planning.
23 The Role of the Primary Care Physician in Timely Return to Work pdf link

The OMA has updated its 1994 “Position Paper in Support of Timely Return to Work and the Role of the Primary Care Physician” to reflect the evolution in understanding of the benefits of early return to work, and the best practices in this area. The revised document articulates ongoing issues in the field of timely return to work, and offers solutions that will enable the implementation of successful programs for patients, employers and physicians.

41 Day in Primary Eye Care for Family Physicians

The 31st Day in Primary Eye Care symposium featured the latest information on practical approaches to common eye problems that present to general practitioners, including the evaluation of visual loss in the family physician’s office, screening for pediatric eye disease, amblyopia and strabismus, and treatment of age-related macular degeneration.

Revenue may be derived from annual fees collected from patients, as well as by billing for individual uninsured services provided to patients and third parties who are not enrolled in the plan. This month’s column describes seven key steps to develop, implement, and evaluate a successful block billing plan.
50 Doctor’s Business - 2009 Federal Budget Reviewpdf link

The recent federal budget contained tax relief for both individuals and businesses. Individuals will benefit from modest increases to the basic personal tax credit and the two lowest personal income tax brackets, as well as the introduction of a home renovation tax credit, and an increase to the amount that can be withdrawn from RRSPs under the Home Buyers’ Plan. Businesses will see an increase in the amount of income eligible for the small business deduction, and an increase in the accelerated capital cost allowance for computers.
