In memoriam
May 15, 2021

Dr. Eva Marie Kovacs

Dr. Eva Kovacs, wife of the late Bela Kovacs, the love of her life for 69 years, and daughter of Andor Juhász and Margit Rudas, died peacefully at home at the age of 96 on May 15, 2021.

Survived by nieces Dr. Andrea Kovacs-Loomis, Dr. Zsuzsanna Sandor and Katalin Detshy, nephew Dr. Joseph Kovacs, and their families. Born in Hungary, Eva lived a full, adventure-filled life first in Hungary, then in Switzerland, England and finally, Canada.

Her love of medicine, travel (visited more than 100 countries), classical music, literature, poetry, the arts, bridge and golf (Rivermead 43 years) defined much of her life.

As professor of pharmacology, she guided generations of MD and Ph.D. students in Hungary, England and Canada. At McGill University, she was a professor in pharmacology and therapeutics, where she conducted grant-funded research and mentored many young graduate students.

In the last stage of her career, she worked as a medical officer with the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Funeral and memorial services will take place at a later date in the Calvinist Church in Nagykoros, Hungary, where her remains will be placed with Bela’s in the family crypt. Our gratitude goes out to her long-time wonderful caregiver Rab Rizvi and the staff at Comfort Keepers, all the nursing staff at Red Oak Retirement Home, and the CCAC nursing and palliative care staff.

In Memoriam donations to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Foundation (3045 Baseline Rd., Ottawa, Ont., K2H 8P4, 613-721-4731, qchfound@qch.on.ca), would be appreciated. Share condolences, donations or tributes.
