Ontario’s doctors: Enjoy the long weekend and celebrate by getting vaccinated

TORONTO, July 30, 2021 — Ontario’s doctors wish everyone a safe and fun holiday weekend and say the best way to celebrate is by getting vaccinated and encouraging others to do so.

The Ontario Medical Association says that getting fully vaccinated is the single most important thing everyone can do to curb the pandemic, allow the province to reopen safely and prevent any resurgence.

The OMA remains concerned about the Delta variant of the virus, which is more contagious and can cause more serious illness.

“I am excited that Ontarians will be able to spend the long weekend with their friends and family,” said OMA President Dr. Adam Kassam. “This crucial human connection is vital to our collective wellbeing, which is also true of vaccinations against COVID-19. I encourage everyone who has not been vaccinated, and who is eligible, to book your appointment so we can continue on our path of recovery and rehabilitation.”

Anyone with questions about vaccines should talk to their family doctor, pediatrician or public health unit, who all have a critical role to play in explaining the benefits of vaccines and administering them.
