At the OMA Council meeting on April 29th, 2018, Dr. Nadia Alam, the current President-Elect, will become the OMA President for the year 2018-2019. Voting is now closed.
The OMA 2018 President Elect shall be elected by OMA Council members on April 29th, 2018 during the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Prior to that election, the OMA shall hold a Non-Binding Referendum of the OMA membership for President Elect.
Information regarding the Referendum and the actual Election is stated below:
The nomination period for the Non-Binding Referendum for the President Elect goes from 9:00am* on March 15th, 2018 to 5:00pm* on April 2nd, 2018.
In order to be eligible to run for this position, a member must be an OMA Council Delegate and/or on the OMA Board of Directors as of the conclusion of the April 2018 Annual Meeting of Council.
All interested candidates must submit the nomination form to firstname.lastname@example.org signed by the three (3) Council Delegates eligible to vote in the referendum. When the nomination has been validated, the candidate will be given a template to use for their CV as well as a standardized candidate statement.

CV and Candidate Statements must be provided as word documents (no PDFs). The Candidate Statement, CV and video will be posted on the OMA website. The Candidate Statement and video will be available to the voters in the voting system.
Dr. Conte and Dr. Gandhi participated on a Townhall on March 27th. The recorded session will be made available for later viewing soon.
The OMA will post on-line each nomination received once it has been validated as being compliant with the OMA President-Elect Election Procedure and the OMA by-laws.
The voter list will be fixed as of 5:00pm* on March 31st, 2018. This means that members must have paid their dues and be an eligible OMA Member prior to this time in order to vote.
All OMA members in good standing who reside or work in Ontario (refer to OMA By-Law 2:1:2) at the time of election will be eligible to vote. Voting will be by ranked ballots for this process. All members will be entitled to vote once.
Should a candidate drop out of the referendum during the Non-Binding Referendum Voting Period, the OMA will remove their name from the on-line ballot. Members who voted for the candidate will not be allowed to recast their vote.
A “Notice of Voting” will go out via email to members on April 4, 2018. The Notice of Voting will state the voting period which is from 9:00am* on April 4, 2018 to 2:00pm* on April 18, 2018. It will give instructions on accessing the voting website. Since the Notice of Voting will be distributed via email, a member must have an email on file in order to receive it. Members are encouraged to have an email on file in order to get the Notice of Voting. If a member would like to request a paper ballot they have until 5:00pm* on April 9, 2018 to request one by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 416.340.6189 or 1.800.268.7215 ext. 6189. Please note a paper ballot will be mailed if requested; however, the candidate statements will only be available online.
From the end of the Non-Binding Referendum Nomination Period to the end of the Voting period, the OMA will not disseminate to members by any means, any communication that references, supports or names any candidate. Questions concerning whether a communication satisfies this restriction shall be referred to the Chair of the Members Communication Public Affairs Advisory Committee for decision.
Referendum results will be provided to Council on April 20th and will be posted on the OMA website for general membership knowledge.
The OMA President-Elect will take office at the conclusion of the OMA Annual Meeting of Council.

Each President-Elect nominee will be given two minutes to address OMA Council in accordance with the OMA Council Election Procedures outlined in the OMA Council Conduct document
The Election will take place on the Sunday of the Annual Meeting of OMA Council at 11:00 am.
All OMA Council Delegates will be eligible to vote. The OMA Chair of Council will preside over the election.

If only one member is nominated for this position at the time of Election at the OMA Annual Meeting of Council, the Chair will declare that candidate to be elected to that position.
