Toronto, ON Dec. 16 2016 – The Ontario Medical Association congratulates the 26 new appointees to the Order of Ontario – four distinguished doctors are among the most recent Ontarians invested into the Order.
“On behalf of Ontario’s Doctors I congratulate these remarkable Ontario physicians,” said Dr. Virginia Walley, OMA President. “Their contributions to excellence in health care and their commitment to patient care are a model for all physicians whose honour it is to serve the patients of this province.”
Dr. Peter Adamson of Toronto was recognized for his work in leading teams of plastic surgeons on medical missions through his Face the Future Foundation. Dr. Adamson is an internationally recognized facial plastic and reconstruction surgeon.
Dr. Mehran Anvari of Hamilton was recognized as a surgical pioneer. Dr. Anvari was one of the first surgeons in Canada to use robotics in surgery and is the founding director of the world-renowned Centre for Surgical Invention and Innovation, supporting the development of a new generation of medical robotics.
Dr. Anthony Kam Chuen Chan of Hamilton is a prominent pediatric hematologist and scientist; and a professor of pediatrics at McMaster University. Dr. Chan has advanced the care of children with thrombosis and stroke, including the use of clot-resistant catheters.
Dr. Dorothy Anna Jarvis of Oakville is a distinguished pediatrician and a professor emerita in the University of Toronto's Department of Paediatrics, and an international authority on emergency health care for children.
These appointments were part of 26 new appointments announced by Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell on Dec. 14, 2016. The Lieutenant Governor will present the appointees with the honour during an investiture ceremony at Queen's Park in June 2017.
Former Lieutenant Governor Lincoln Alexander established the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest official honour, in 1986. Over the past 29 years the Order of Ontario has recognized individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field benefiting the people of Ontario or abroad.
