Scrub-In

Welcome to the winter 2010 issue of Scrub-In. In this issue we take a look at the OMA’s new provincewide public education campaign entitled “Your Life is Our Life’s Work,” which features practicing physicians from various backgrounds and specialties (page. 4)

We also have a primer for medical students on euthanasia by ethicist Blair Henry on page 6 and an article by McMaster’s Sheila Klassen on her recent trip to Uganda on page 13.

For students approaching Clerkship, Akash Patel of UofT offers 12 steps for a successful clerkship on page 10. We also have a report from the last DOCS on Ice hockey tournament, which featured the first medical student division (page 5), and Northern’s Meghan Garnett explores the challenges of rural medicine in the Yukon (page 12). Of course, we also have updates from each of the six medical schools, so you can stay up-to-date on what’s happening at the other Ontario medical schools (page 14).

Packed full of articles on topics that relate to you, Scrub-In features information you need to stay current with your profession and colleagues. One of the goals of Scrub-In is to foster a sense of community between Ontario medical students, and to that end, we invite you to send submissions for publication to scrub.in@oma.org.

We are always looking for story ideas, clinical elective experiences, healthy and original recipes, travel stories, book reviews — if it’s of interest to your fellow medical students, we’re interested! You can also send in questions or topics that you’d like to see featured in the magazine.

As always, we welcome any feedback or any suggestions you may have.

All the best in 2010!
