It is with much sadness that the family of Manny Gluck announces his passing on August 25, 2023 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital.
Manny was born and raised in Ottawa. As he proudly recounted, he lived in the “turret towers” home on Clemow Avenue just off Bank Street and attended First Avenue Public School and later Glebe and Lisgar Collegiates.
Early in his professional career, before deciding on medicine, Manny was a bio-chemist with the Department of Agriculture in Ottawa.
He went on to pursue a medical degree at the University of Ottawa, graduating in 1956 and practiced as a much sought after and appreciated OB/GYN at the Civic Hospital. After he left private practice, Manny was one of the founders of the Canadian Medical Professional Association (CMPA).
Manny was a people person; he and Cheryle loved entertaining and joining both private and public gatherings. Their passion was travel and together they visited many parts of the world, a frequent destination was Montreal, where Manny had worked for a time at the Jewish General Hospital. They would travel there often, staying in their favourite hotels and enjoying fine dining with friends and former colleagues.
Manny’s warm personality, humility and vivid story recollections of family and personal history and anecdotes will be missed.
Manny is survived by his wife Cheryle Hothersall-Gluck and his six children Carl (New Jersey), Laurie (Manhattan), Paula (Toronto), Tim (Seattle) and Sara (Ottawa). He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
The family sends gratitude to the staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their care over the years particularly over the past week in the neurological department.
Rest in peace Manny, knowing how much you were loved.
