Annual OMF Golf Tournament raises a record $200,000 to advance health equity

Thank you to all the golfers, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who made the 2022 OMF Golf Tournament a success

A friendly round of golf, contests, gifts, prizes and heartfelt tributes were among the highlights of the OMF Golf Tournament, presented by MD Financial Management and Scotiabank Healthcare+.

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, more than 130 participants, sponsors and stakeholders gathered at the golf tournament on Sept. 23.

The event raised $200,000, which will support advancing health equity and addressing social determinants of health.

“This day was made possible thanks to our generous sponsors, and all of you who came out to show your support,” said Janet Lambert, OMF vice-president and golf committee co-chair. “I would like to thank our presenting sponsor, MD Financial and Scotiabank Healthcare+, who have been supporting the Ontario Medical Foundation for more than 17 years.”

Throughout the day, participants had a chance to participate in some exciting on-the-course experiences, which included delicious oysters and gelatos as well as contests, such as the longest drive cannon, beat the CEO/committee chair, closest-to-the-pin and best dressed. Participants also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for great prizes, including in-kind donations from The Ritz-Carlton Toronto and a golfer package from OMF president Dr. Albert Ng. Participants, OMA members and staff also had an opportunity to bid on an exciting selection of items on the event’s online auction, which included hotel stays in Miami, Quebec and Toronto, sports memorabilia, paintings and more.

The event luncheon followed the action on the course. Allan O’Dette, OMA CEO, and Lambert welcomed guests and thanked the sponsors. Derek Kohalmi from MD Financial Management and Scotiabank Healthcare+ addressed participants, sharing information about their work and how they can support physicians’ financial-planning needs.

During lunch, Dr. Adam Kassam, OMA immediate past president and golf committee co-chair, presented prizes to the contest winners and drew tickets for the raffle prizes. He also presented the sixth annual Dr. George Yee Memorial Award for the best foursome.

In presenting the award, Dr. Kassam took a moment to highlight the profound impact of Dr. Yee’s generous support of the Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund program to assist medical students in financial need.

Dr. Ng shared the transformational journey of the foundation over the past several years. “In 2020, responding to the needs of Ontarians, and in recognition of issues of social justice, the OMF decided that we wanted and needed to broaden our mandate and expand our work outside of our bursary funds,” said Dr. Ng. “We wanted to capitalize on the expertise of physicians and amplify their voices, be a known and trusted partner to the OMA, and financially support the work of physicians improving Ontario’s health and put a focus on social determinants of health and health equity.”

A special thanks to the lunch and entertainment sponsor, Canadian Premier Life Insurance, and the silver tee sponsors, Campbell Moving Systems, LifeWorks, New York Life, Ontario’s Anesthesiologists, (a section of the OMA), The Personal Insurance Company, Prime Communications, and Telus Health. Deepest gratitude to all the golfers, bronze tee, hole, beverage cart, snacks, longest drive cannon and white tee sponsors, donors, volunteers and supporters for their commitment to the foundation.
