Peacefully, and surrounded by his loving family at his home, Dr. Martyn James Chilvers passed away at 69 on Dec. 8, 2024.
He was the beloved husband of Maria Chilvers. Martyn was a devoted and loving father to Lisa Chilvers (Kris), and Candice Chilvers (Dustin) and stepfather to Craig James, and Sean James (Coral) and the cherished son of Barbara and Kenneth Chilvers. He was the proud grandad (affectionately known as "Mar Mar") to Leonie, Avery, Walker and Kellan. Predeceased by his brother, Robert Chilvers, he will be deeply missed by his many friends, colleagues, and patients.
Dr. Chilvers was a well-known and highly respected family physician in Sarnia, Ont., renowned for his compassionate care, dedication to his patients, and insatiable thirst for knowledge. His career was distinguished by numerous accomplishments, including receiving the People's Choice Award, conducting clinical drug studies, and serving as a bariatric educator. He was a forever learner who inspired everyone around him with his commitment to advancing medicine and improving the lives of others.
Beyond his professional life, Martyn was a man of adventure and passion. He found joy in travelling the world with his beloved wife, Maria, and delighted in exploring underwater worlds through snorkelling and scuba diving. Whether skiing down snowy slopes, relaxing on a sun-drenched beach, or spending precious time with his family and friends, Martyn lived life to its fullest.
His legacy is of kindness, exploration and an unwavering commitment to family, friends and community. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Thyroid Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. (If through the funeral home, cheques only, please.)
