Dr. Norbert Emil Jean Ferre

Peacefully with family by his side at Chartwell McConnell Manor, Norbert Emil Jean Ferré of Cornwall, Ont., born in Saskatchewan, passed away on Nov. 24, 2024, in his 91st year.

Predeceased by his parents, Pierre Ferré and Regina Tinevez, both of Breton stock, and by his brother Maurice Ferré. Survived by his soulmate Christena (MacDonald) Ferré of Cornwall, daughters Paula Ferré and Sylvie Suranyi (Leslie Jr.), beloved grandsons Benjamin and Noah, sisters Aline Happ (Lawrence) and Jeannine Thompson (Don), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norbert grew up in the farming district of St. Brieux, Sask. He completed studies at Campion College and Gravelbourg College in Saskatchewan before heading east to pursue higher education. A graduate of the University of Ottawa’s faculty of medicine, he lived his dream of practising ophthalmology in Cornwall from 1966 until he retired in April 24, 1998.

He was an active member of the Stormont Yacht Club, where he moored the Noémia Fée and diligently fulfilled the role of secretary for many years. An avid learner, he was involved in the Encore Program through St. Lawrence College and attended seminars on a variety of topics.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) would be appreciated by the family.
