Dr. Ronald Stephen Weiss

July 5, 1956 - Oct. 29, 2024

Dr. Ronald Weiss died peacefully on Oct. 29, 2024, at his home in Toronto, surrounded by his family after living an extraordinarily active life, even after his brain cancer diagnosis in 2020.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 45 years, Debbie Halton. He was the loving father and father-in-law of Jessica and Aaron Laurito, Joshua Weiss, Lauren and Matt Helfand, dear grandfather of Maya and Lyla, dear brother and brother-in-law of Peter and Mike Sweeney, Don and Ingrid Weiss, Jason and Rivkah Weiss, and brother-in-law of Ron and Linda Halton, and Terry and Joanne Halton, and special uncle and cousin to Ernie and Beverley Shapiro, Debra and Irwin, and many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.

Ron was born in Montreal, built his life and career in Ottawa, and moved to Toronto to be closer to his children and grandchildren upon retirement.

He introduced no-scalpel vasectomy to Canada in 1992, advancing male contraception nationally and worldwide, and performing close to 60,000 procedures at his home office in Ottawa.

He was a talented singer/songwriter, recording his music with accomplished Ottawa musicians and playing various venues throughout his life. Ron's diverse skills and talents, along with his compassion, strength, curiosity, discipline and moral compass were an inspiration to all who knew him.

Special thanks go to Dr. Garth Nicholas at the Ottawa Hospital, Dr. Warren Perry of Sunnybrook Hospital, and Dr. Joshua Tepper for their ongoing compassionate and exceptional treatment. Donations may be made to the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation (Halton-Weiss Family Fund), and the Odette Cancer Program at Sunnybrook Hospital.
