Dr. Latif Buckridan passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the age of 92. Until he died, Latif was active and healthy, visiting family and friends, enjoying his activities with his trademark sense of humour.
Son of the late Shamshun (Khan) and Ibrahim Buckridan. Brother of Dr. Rashied Buckridan (the late Della), Dr. Rakib Buckridan, Farid Buckridan (the late Shirley), the late Latifa Mohammed (the late Charles), Rashida (Rasheed Khan) and Dr. Alberuni Buckridan (Sandora Bhim). Former husband of his best friend, Mary Lou Buckridan. Companion of Lucia Gualdieri. Father of Steven (Evelyn teNyenhuis), Kevin (Stefania Zaccagnini), Jason, Andrea (Matthew Tyler). Grandfather of Chloe, Claire, Jude, Willa, Avery, Dylan, Maya and Zachary. Uncle and grand uncle to many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Son-in-law of the late Jack and the late Mary Violet Kirk and Judy Kirk. Brother-in-law of the late John Kirk (Noreen), Rosemary (Joe Brady), the late Paul Kirk, Maggie, Betty-Anne (Ray Gottfried), Kathy (Jay Currier), Michael Kirk (Janice).
Latif immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, from Trinidad, West Indies, for his pre-med education. Then, he attended U of T for his medical degree and General Practice for 3 years. Latif received his Specialist’s Degree in Anaesthesiology and practised in Oshawa, Ontario, Kitchener, Ontario, Corpus Christi, Texas, Palestine, Texas, Wichita, Kansas, Louisville, Kentucky and finally in Windsor, Ontario.
As per Latif’s wishes, his body has been donated to the Medical School in London, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please offer an act of kindness in memory of Latif. Arrangements entrusted to Janisse Funeral Home (1139 Ouellette Ave., Windsor, Ont., 226-640-0838).
