Dr. Randall R. Hurst

Randy passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 4, 2025 with loving family and friends by his side. Beloved husband and soulmate of Sharon Hurst. Father of Michael and Karis and step-father of Jason Olson (Melissa). Loving and proud grandfather (Papa) of Noah and Luca. Predeceased by his parents Noah "Bud" (2010) and Evelyn (nee Reid) Hurst (2006). Survived by his mother-in-law Dorothy Doan (late "Mac", 2006). Dear brother of Michael Hurst (Debbie), late Rebecca Battersby Bolton (2024) (Robert), Lisa Hurst-Archer (Dr. Keith Archer), Rod Hurst (Lisa), Cathy Rankine (Gary), and Dr. Jody Hurst (Dr. Sheldon Lewis). Brother-in-law of John Doan (Patti), Joanne Coates (Ron) and Joyce Garant. Randy will be missed by many nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and many dear friends, notably Dr. Ches MacNeil and Gary Barbesin.

Randy was a bright shining star right from the get-go. Growing up in Remington Park, he played hockey and baseball and swam at The Booster Pool. After Gilmore School he attended Kennedy Collegiate where he played sports, was student body president, sang in The Quartet, was valedictorian and graduated with honours. He received a BSc (Honours) from the University of Windsor and went on to graduate medical school at the University of Toronto. Dr. Hurst practised family medicine in Windsor for his entire career, spanning over 40 years. He will be remembered for his astute clinical knowledge and his love for each and every patient he attended to.

Randy’s love of learning and keen curiosity opened doors of possibility for his six younger siblings. Randy could light up a room with his enthusiasm and genuine attention to others. He loved lively conversation, every genre of music (yes, The Beatles), tending to his garden, good food and spending time with his beautiful Sharon. Randy often quoted his dad’s advice to him when he was about to go to high school, “Just be kind — and you’ll be okay.”

Randy, you more than lived up to that advice, your kindness touched so many. We miss you dearly.

Cremation has taken place as per Randy's wishes. If so desired, donations in memory of Dr. Hurst may be made to a charity he supported yearly, Street Help Windsor. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation First (Tecumseh) 519-398-9188. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.cremationfirst.ca.
