Dr. Thomas J. Ryan

Sad to announce the passing of Dr. Tom Ryan on Monday, August 19, 2024, in Hamilton.

Tom was born in Monaghan, Ireland, in 1937 and graduated from University College Dublin in 1964. He moved to McMaster as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine in 1969, followed by over 30 happy years in the Hamilton General Hospital as an Internist and teacher, and later as an Endocrinologist, before retiring at the age of 75. He took great pleasure in teaching and was appreciated for his empathy, sense of humour, and erudition. Colleagues, students, patients, and friends who enjoyed his company over the years will remember him fondly.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Hazel, his children Nuada (Fabio), Helen (René), and Liam, and his granddaughters Valentina, Simona, and Francesca. Tom will be greatly missed by his sister, Sister Nuala Ryan, in California, as well as his nephew Eugene, niece Patricia, and other family in England and Ireland. He was predeceased by his brothers Jack (Mai), and Pat (Celine), and sister Maura (Gerard).

Our thanks to the staff on Ward 8 South at the Hamilton General Hospital, who cared for him so well during the final two weeks and, most especially, we will remember the kindness of the wonderful Dr. Clive Davis.

Cremation has taken place.
