Dr. Vito Forte

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Vito Forte, who passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at Toronto General Hospital.

He is survived by his loving daughter Christina and son Peter; his brothers Ferruccio and Paul; sister Ivana; sisters-in-law Theresa Forte and Hether Deans; and partner Ashley Nagle. Vito was also a proud father-in-law to Parker Gilpin and Victoria Forte, and cherished grandfather to Violet, Maverick, and Adelaide. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife and soulmate, Mary Ann Forte.

Vito was a distinguished leader in his field, serving as the CEO, Chairman of the Board and co-inventor of OtoSim. Retiring from clinical practice in 2015, having been the Otolaryngologist-in-Chief and Associate Surgeon-in-Chief at The Hospital for Sick Children, he remained a full Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. His acquired skill set, lifelong passion for teaching, engineering and innovation were deployed as a Liaison Officer in the Department of Surgery, fostering connections between clinicians and engineers.

Vito's contributions were recognized with several prestigious awards including the 2013 Canadian Association of Medical Educators (CAME), Certificate of Merit Award and the Ernest C. Manning Foundation Innovation Award in 2015, and the Robert Salter Humanitarian Award – but his real impact was felt by the thousands of patients and families he helped over the course of his career.

Vito will be remembered for his kind heart, his boisterous laugh, and his love and dedication to helping others.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant House Toronto. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
