7 reasons why attending Queen’s Park Day is a good idea

Use the day to push for health-care solutions and build connections

Doctors are heading back to Queen’s Park this fall to advocate to improve health care – and you’re invited to take part.

Slated for Monday, Oct. 20, the OMA’s Queen’s Park Day promises to be a day packed full of meetings with MPPs, key government staff, networking events and more.

There are still spots open this year. Here are seven reasons you should consider joining in:

  1. Be a change maker. Use your leadership skills to help shape a better health-care system for you and your patients
  2. Be a voice for patients. Speak up for Indigenous Peoples, seniors, new Canadians and patients who aren’t always able to speak for themselves
  3. You know the issues. From the front lines, your first-hand knowledge of where the problems lie in the system gives you the authority to ask for change
  4. You have credibility. You are well-respected members of your communities and politicians trust you. Leverage that to press for solutions
  5. Open up new doors. Taking part in Queen’s Park Day could lead to other opportunities, such as joining an OMA committee or working group on health policy, as well as participating in more MPP meetings
  6. You’ll be well supported. Information sessions, toolkits and advice from your peers are available to help you get the most out of the day
  7. Make lasting connections. You’ll be alongside like-minded colleagues advocating for the same things. Use this opportunity to get to know other physicians, as they may become lifelong friends and people to turn to for peer-to-peer supports throughout your career
