Dr. Ronald Eric Groshaw

Dr. Ronald Eric Groshaw passed away on July 21, 2025 at Etobicoke General Hospital at the age of 95.

He is predeceased by his son George Bain (2003); beloved husband to Barbara Jean for 65 years; father to Eric (Tracie); grandfather to Christopher (Hilary) and Philip (Kaitlin); and great-grandfather to Samuel.

Ron grew up on the family farm near Moorefield, Ont. While attending Western University, hostilities began in Korea. Ron enlisted in the RCAF while continuing his studies for a doctorate in medicine. Ron served with the 408 Squadron in the Artic at Resolute Bay. Upon completion of his tour of duty he did post-graduate study in ophthalmology. He opened a private practice in Weston, Ont. Ron was appointed to the teaching staff at University of Toronto. He served as chief ophthalmologist at Etobicoke General Hospital and served on staff at St. John’s, West Park and Sunnybrooke Hospital.

Ron joined the masonic community at Conestogo Lodge No. 295 in 1959. In 1983, Ron was elected grand master of the ancient free and accepted masons of Canada in Ontario. Ron was also a member of Ramses Shrine No. 33 and was the imperial potentate of the Temple of Rameses in 1991.

Recreationally, Ron enjoyed cottage life with his family. His hobbies included sailing, golf and skiing.

In his later years, Ron enjoyed being a "tree surgeon" at the lake and he was veracious reader and had a passion for all types of literature.
