Susy Lin was defined by kindness. Her family, friends, cats and colleagues are saddened at her loss and buoyed from having had her in their lives.
Susy grew up in Essex, Ont., graduated from University of Western Ontario and University of Toronto medical school. She practiced as a family doctor in Toronto until 2021, working at the Children's Aid Society and later Medcan. Her intellect, forthright compassion and insight were always at the ready for patients and fellow physicians. Her co-workers often welcomed her guidance in assessing treatment.
Her life was rich with travel, musical theatre and cinema. Susy’s knowledge of figure skating rivalled any International Skating Union judge. Special attention was paid her cats, most recently Kedi and Billy.
Susy was actually brilliant: never boastful, never forceful and always effective. The impact on those around her was subtle then, over time, more palpable and visible. She knew the names of everyone in even the most peripheral recess of her milieu: neighbours, puzzle swappers, building staff, restaurant folk, almost everyone. They too knew Susy and their regard and warmth was evident. Her light was reflected upon those in her company.
Susy is survived by her parents, Ching Der Lin and Chung Tzu Lin, sister, Grace Lin, and brother-in-law, Bruce MacNeil.
The family wishes to thank Susy’s village -- the nurses, doctors, surgeons and care team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital; the community supports including our team of personal support care workers; and most importantly, the friends who played an active role in her happiness and comfort in recent weeks.
A private cremation has been held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (brain cancer research).
