Funds raised at annual OMF Golf Tournament will advance health equity in Ontario

The Ontario Medical Foundation’s new direction aligns with the OMA’s proposed health-care solutions

The 2023 OMF Golf Tournament fundraised with a new vision. The tournament garnered more than $181,000 to support the Ontario Medical Foundation’s revitalized direction to advance health equity and address the social determinants of health – two factors aligned with the OMA’s proposed solutions for health-care reform in Ontario.

“Being socially responsible and broadening our vision of improving the health of Ontarians and addressing health inequity will enable us to engage a segment of our membership who have not been very involved with the OMF,” said Dr. Albert Ng, OMF president and golf committee co-chair.

"The annual golf tournament is just one way the OMF makes an impact with many more opportunities to envision in the future" —  Dr. Albert Ng, OMF president and golf committee co-chair

The tournament, presented by MD Financial Management and Scotiabank Healthcare+, saw more than 110 participants including OMA members, staff, sponsors and stakeholders, gather on Sept. 22 for a round of golf, contests, awards and heartfelt tributes.

Participants enjoyed activities on and off the green. There were two chances to win $10,000 in a hole-in-one, closest-to-the-pin and best-dressed golfer contests. Vendor giveaways and raffle prizes included in-kind donations from Nespresso, Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle and two roundtrips from Porter Airlines. An online auction offered hotel stays in Miami, Quebec, Toronto and more.

During a luncheon, Dr. Ng and Dr. Audrey Karlinsky, OMA vice chair, and Andrew Khalili, Portfolio Manager from MD Financial Management and Scotiabank Healthcare+, welcomed and thanked guests and event sponsors.

“This day was made possible thanks to our generous sponsors, and all of you who came out to show your support,” said Dr. Ng.

Sarah Wilkinson, CEO of Dr.Bill, a medical billing software platform and tournament sponsor, announced the three OMF grant winners. David Collie, an OMA and OMF board director, presented the annual Dr. George Yee Memorial Award for the tournament’s best foursome – a three-way tie between groups with the same score for the first time in history. Collie also acknowledged Dr. Yee’s generous support of the Ontario Medical Student Bursary Fund program and its profound impact on medical students needing financial assistance.

"The annual golf tournament is just one way the OMF makes an impact with many more opportunities to envision in the future", said Dr. Ng.  “I truly believe that there will be emerging value that we have not even anticipated that will benefit our organization, our members and Ontarians.”
