Dr. Debra Lea Hutchinson

Dr. Debra Lea (Deb) Hutchinson died peacefully on Aug. 22, 2025, with her sister Joanne and niece Kristal by her side. Previously deceased by her father, Frederick Lea Hutchinson, and mother, Phyllis Jean (Morphy).

Deb is survived by her sister Joanne (Stewart); brother-in-law Rick; nieces Kristal and Carey (Stewart); great-niece, Haiden, and Grace; and great-nephew Nate.

Deb was blessed with many special friends, including Leo LeHoux, Rev Ralph, Janice Lepore and Judy Arvique.

Deb will always be grateful for the many physicians that contributed to her care.

Deb was a graduate of the University of Ottawa (Meds 86) and McMaster (89). She occupied many roles, including McMaster University CCFP (EM), residency program director, academic chief, deputy chief (ER), HHS surveyor with Accreditation Canada, senior consultant, stakeholder engagement with Clinicalconnect and medical quality officer at Joseph Brant Hospital.

Special thanks to the respiratory therapists (Brian, Janice) Environmental Aids (Rob, Melina) and Healthcare Aids (Ross, Danielle) for their humour, care and kindness.

Heartfelt thanks to the many nurses who provided care and compassion (Jill, Sonya, Matt, Cindy, Bonnie, Kelly and Brenda)

Deb will always be grateful for the many physicians who contributed to her care. Special mention to: Dr. Chris Hourmouzis and staff, Dr. Andy Freitas, Dr. V Dhagirath, Dr. C Perera, Dr. A Prebtani, Dr. Sameer Sharif, Dr. Simon Oczkowski, Dr. Hailey Hobbs, and Dr. Jo Dionne, who was an angel in Deb’s health-care journey, as well as all we may have missed.

Cremation has taken place and there will not be a service at Deb’s request.

Deb was blessed to have the love and support of her sister, niece and all family members throughout this health-care journey. Deb will always be grateful for this precious time with her sister.
