Dr. John Allan Lamont

It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. John Allan Lamont (Papa) announces his passing on May 21, 2025, in Hamilton, Ontario, in his 85th year.

Beloved husband of Lois (Moat), father of Jeff (Colleen) Lamont, and Sarah (Peter), Kaelan (Francheska), & Liam (Kristine) Moat. Beloved grandfather of Kadynce, Emmett, Jack, Miles, Penelope, Violet, and Magnus. Beloved uncle to Joanna Wilson (Andrew), James Lamont (Linda), and granduncle to Galen and Raynham. John will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, friends, and colleagues at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences.

A graduate of the University of Western Ontario medical school (1966), John had long been associated with Hamilton area hospitals and the McMaster Medical School. He was chief resident at the Henderson Hospital and joined the new Obstetrics and Gynecology department at McMaster as a lecturer in 1971. His practice in obstetrics, gynecology, and couple sex and relationship therapy was largely based at the Henderson Hospital, Human Sexuality Clinic (McMaster Medical Centre), and Women's Health Concerns Clinic (St. Joseph's Hospital). John was the director of the Sexual Medicine Clinic from 1973 to 2010. A dedicated clinician and teacher, John has had a great impact on women's health and physician training within the city and beyond.

John was an avid nature lover, traveller, and gifted photographer. He was often photographing wildlife and flora in Hamilton conservation areas or during one of his many trips around the world. In more recent years, he was often at the sidelines of his grandchildren's events or at the pool with a camera in hand.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will occur at a later date.

Today was a good day. – John Lamont

We wish to thank the staff of Hamilton Health Sciences for all the dedicated and compassionate support. In memory of John, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
