In memoriam
Jan. 13, 2025

Dr. Miodrag Alexander Ristic

Died peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 95. Mile was born in Nis, Serbia, in 1929, son of Alexander and Stana, oldest brother to George, Vera, and Zora. The Ristic family moved to Belgrade from Nis where Mile graduated from medical school at the University of Belgrade. He then met Dirjana (Dirka, nee Krajcinovic) who was working at the BBC, they married and decided to emigrate to Canada. While waiting for a visa in London, Mile and Dirka moved to Nigeria where he was a surgeon in Benin City, where son Rasko was born and then Ibadan, where daughter Jelena (Helen, died 2014) was born.

The family emigrated to Montreal where Mile completed Canadian medical school at McGill, then did a residency at McMaster. Mile and family finally moved to Windsor in 1972 where he practiced as a surgeon until his retirement in 2000, followed by several years of doing sclerotherapy.

After Dirjana died in 1990, Mile met Phyllis Saddy (nee Zatko) whose husband Paul had also recently passed away. They were married in 1993. Mile became a stepfather to Evelyn Krayacich (husband John), Lori Bietola (husband Robert), Jeff (wife Janis), and Kathy Moceri (husband John). Together Phyllis and Mile have 15 grandchildren - Michael, Sophie, Owen, Deirdre, Melissa, Alysha, Bryanne, Matthew, Andrew, Kimberly, Marcus, Alexandra, Kristin, Josh, and Nate and, so far, three great-grandchildren - James, Nora, and Scarlett.

Special thanks to Dr. Jervis, the caregivers Saleem, Diane, and Beth, and the excellent staff in the Palliative Program at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.

As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
