Dr. Renier Scholten

Family physician

Dr. Renier Scholten passed away peacefully on Aug. 4, 2025, at May Court Hospice in Ottawa. Beloved husband for 58 years to Elly Scholten; loving and dedicated father to Lori and Derek (Lynne); cherished and always giving grandpa to Rachel (Brian), Michael (Morgan), Jack and Jacob.

Renier attended Pauline Johnson Collegiate in Brantford, Ont., and the University of Western Ontario in London, Ont., where he graduated from medical school in 1968. Renier opened his family practice in Brantford in 1972 and was passionate about the care of his patients for 40 years. Renier was known for his compassion, humility, generosity, kindness and could relate to anyone from any walk of life.

Renier served for a time as chief of staff at Brantford General Hospital, worked at St. Joseph's Hospital and was the doctor for the Brant County Jail for 15 years. Renier was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Brantford. He enjoyed many friendships there, as well as with his classmates, colleagues and fellow boating friends at Bluebill Marina, since if he could choose to be anywhere, he would be sailing.

Renier will be greatly missed by his family who are grateful for their own beautiful memories and also the stories extended to us by those who knew him personally and professionally.
