Dr. James George Ryan

James was born June 30, 1934, in East Orange, N.J. and died on Jan. 10, 2026, in his 92nd year. Survived by his wife, best friend and soulmate, Sheila (Singleton) – KGH (1959), with whom he spent 65 wonderful years. He was predeceased by his parents, E.J. Ryan and Mary Ryan (Bolton). 

James graduated from medical school at Queen’s University in 1959 and interned at Montreal General Hospital and Hamilton General. James practised family medicine in Hamilton, completed a dermatology internship at Cleveland Clinic and practised dermatology in London, Ont., with an associate professorship at Western, London, Ontario. He was the staff dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic with an associate professorship at Case Western Reserve. James joined the staff at the Peterborough Clinic in 1971 until retirement. Following retirement, he enjoyed summers in Lakefield where they built a new home on the Trent and winters at their home in Siesta Key, Fla.

Jim and Sheila both received great joy in being philanthropists. For those fortunate to know Jim, beyond his quiet presence, found a depth of fine character – he was soft-spoken with a warm heart. He was a voracious reader and lover of classical music and nature. He said their love for each other was "pure stardust" and together they shone brighter.
