Family physician
Barry Lavallee, MD, FRCPSC (Hon.), died on Jan. 20, 2026, in Winnipeg at age 64.
At the University of Manitoba, Dr. Lavallee obtained his medical degree in 1988 and completed his training in family medicine in 1990. He was a longstanding member of the Indigenous Health Committee and received an honorary fellowship in 2021 for his dedication and expertise in Indigenous medical education. A champion of Indigenous health for over 30 years, his advocacy has shaped medical education in Canada and beyond.
He leaves a lasting legacy of leadership, mentorship and unwavering dedication to Indigenous health and community well-being.
