Dr. George Park

George Park died peacefully at home on January 1, 2026. In his last week he was with his wife of 66 years, Gill, and was visited by his two children and daughter-in-law, four grandchildren and partners, and four great-grandchildren.

He was born in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, England, in 1928, to George and Gertrude Park, the youngest of four boys (Rob, Tom and Roger). He earned his medical degree from Liverpool University, and soon after completed his national service as an army doctor in Kenya, a country with which he fell in love. He then joined his brother, Tom, in family practice in York, before moving to Canada in 1975. He practiced in St. Catharines from 1976, finishing with a term as Chief of Staff of St. Catharines General Hospital.

In his youth, he was a high-level sprinter and rugby player, even competing internationally for Kenya in both. Later in life, enjoyed many other sports, including golf, tennis, and hiking. He gave considerable time and energy to The Rotary and Probus clubs and served on the Board of the St. Catharines Golf Club, helping oversee their last major course remodelling.

Most importantly, he was a strong family man. He was also well loved for his sense of humour, especially his puns. His family has groan up with them.

He is survived by his wife, Gillian; children, Rachel and Geoffrey (Stephanie); grandchildren, Emerson (Linda), Olivia (Chris), Sebastian, and Andrew (Michelle); and great-grandchildren Emma, Timo, Amelia and Daisy.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Niagara Health Foundation or The Rotary Club of St Catharines would be greatly appreciated.
