Died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Kensington Hospice in Toronto. He is survived by his beloved wife, Zelda; his children, Michelle and Daved; his daughter-in-law, Michelle; and grandson, Cove.
Born and raised in Toronto, Dr. Harvey Moldofsky earned his M.D. from the University of Toronto in 1959 and went on to become Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Medicine there.
Dr. Moldofsky spent a large portion of his career researching sleep physiology and biological rhythms with his colleagues and students. His research has focused on immune, cytokine, and neuroendocrine processes related to sleep and wakefulness under various conditions, including long-duration space travel. Early research focused on rheumatic illness, Tourette’s Syndrome, and eating disorders.
He has received many local, national and international awards and honours, including the regional award of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for his long-standing contributions as a medical educator. He was a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
He will be dearly missed by many that knew him. His family is grateful for the support of many healthcare workers, including the beloved nurses from ParaMed Home Health Care who provided their services in his last few years.
