Dr. Myles Franklin Beatty

Obstetrician and gynecologist

Dear gentle giant, with velvet voice, tall and kind. You spun a good yarn, keeping us all in stitches, often yourself most of all. A good story was always worth repeating — the more absurd, the better. You welcomed four-footed creatures as if they were your own children, all the neighbourhood critters had your number. Infuriatingly unflappable, your steady calm was the tonic for our turbulent times. Crooning along to the stereo at full blast while washing dishes or behind the wheel. Happy when out on the tennis court, the slopes, the golf course, or on the water. Sitting by the window in your scrubs with a good read. You were the first to greet the day and the last to say goodnight.

Myles began his career as a mechanical engineer; however, realizing that he was dissatisfied with his initial profession and recognizing his true passion for practising medicine, he decided to return to school to pursue medical studies at the University of Western Ontario.

After graduating, Myles joined the medical team at the Glazier Clinic in Oshawa, where he specialized in gynecology and served as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Oshawa General Hospital/Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Over the course of his career, from 1980 through 2020, he is estimated to have attended the births of nearly 10,000 babies in Oshawa.

Friends and colleagues will be saddened to learn of his passing on January 26, 2026, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Myles is survived by his loving and beloved family: wife Stephanie, children Jordy and Nate (Rachel), and grandchild Xander; sister Fran (Peter); and nieces and nephews, Alex and Jason, Karla, Aly and Kasey.
