OMA Recognition Program

Recognize someone who's making a difference

Every day, Ontario physicians go above and beyond to support colleagues, strengthen our profession and improve the health of our communities.

The OMA strives to recognize members who have shown strong dedication and have contributed to Ontario’s health-care community (and beyond). The program provides a simple way to celebrate those contributions throughout the year. Whether someone has reached a meaningful milestone, demonstrated exceptional leadership or made an impact behind the scenes, a thoughtful acknowledgement can go a long way.

This program recognizes meaningful contributions throughout the year, celebrating members whose actions, leadership or impact deserve timely recognition alongside the OMA's formal awards

If someone deserves recognition, we'd love to hear about them.

Want to celebrate someone outside our formal awards?

How the program works

The OMA aims to recognize a wide range of contributions and achievements. Some examples include (but are not limited to):

  • National, provincial or community honours. The OMA recently congratulated four OMA members for their appointment to the Order of Canada
  • Significant contributions to the OMA or the medical profession
  • Career or volunteer milestones
  • Acts of service, mentorship or collaboration
  • Contributions to community health or advocacy
  • Major birthday milestones. A member recently received a certificate from the OMA president on their 90th birthday
  • Meaningful actions that deserve to be celebrated. For example, parents notice that their child’s doctor takes extra time to ensure their child is comfortable during their time in the hospital.

If you wish to recognize an OMA member but are unsure if they qualify, please fill out and submit the nomination form and our team will review the request.

Achievement acknowledgements are dependent on the nomination. Possible achievement acknowledgements include:

  • Certificate on behalf of the board chair, president, or CEO
  • Letter on behalf of the board chair, president, or CEO
  • Social media shoutouts (LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.)
  • Spotlight on oma.org, OMA news or other communications channel.

Other acknowledgements, as appropriate.

Anyone (physicians and members of the public) can nominate an OMA member.

Nominations are collected through the nomination form (hyperlink), where they will be reviewed as required by the Awards and Recognition Committee and OMA staff.

Nominations will be evaluated against the OMA’s strategic direction and its advocacy statement.
