TORONTO, Jan. 3, 2022—Ontario’s doctors appreciate the difficult decisions and sacrifices individuals, businesses and governments are having to make during this new highly contagious phase of the pandemic. It is essential we make sure not just hospitals but the entire health-care system has the capacity to care for the sickest patients, both those with COVID-19 and those with other serious illnesses. We also need to ensure that health-care workers have enough personal protective equipment and access to rapid tests to allow them to remain healthy and able to care for their patients safely. The Ontario Medical Association will soon have more information and clarity about what constitutes “essential care,” how physicians can access N95 masks for themselves and their staff, how to test themselves and their staff and what their isolation obligations are if they are exposed to COVID, have symptoms or have a household member with COVID.
